Visitors to Red Cloud are invited to book a stay at the Cather Second Home. Guests may rent the room that was Cather's, or the rooms of her parents and siblings. The entire home may also be rented for family retreats, meetings, and special occasions. The Cather Second Home once provided Cather with a nurturing and encouraging atmosphere in which to work, while Red Cloud and its residents gave her inspiration and insights. The house—now owned and operated by the Willa Cather Foundation—is a retreat for guests as it was for Willa Cather. There are 6 cozy guest rooms and 2.5 baths.

Cherry Corner Estates is a retirement living residence that offers service, security, and independence in an assisted living environment. Private apartments are available which allow for the residents’ own furnishings. Personal services include meals, laundry, housekeeping, medication administration, activities, whirlpool bathing, and emergency call system. Financial arrangements include private pay, Assisted Living Insurance benefits, and a limited number of Medicaid approved units.

The City of Red Cloud owns and operates its own utility system that distributes electricity, water ,and wasterwater to homes and businesses in the Red Cloud area.  The City is a proud member of ACE (Public Alliance of Community Energy), NMPP Energy (Nebraska Municipal Power Pool), and MEAN (Municipal Energy Agency of Nebraska).
