Questions and Answers
How much does it cost to see a movie?
All the movies listed above are free.
Why don’t you charge admission?
The Hollywood lawyers who let us show films require us to be set up differently than a first-run theater.
How can I find out what's coming up?
We’re allowed to tell the names of the great movies we show to people who subscribe to this weekly email or to people who ask. If you know of someone who'd like to know what movies are coming up, have them write to RedCloudFilmClub@gmail.com Or they can drop by the gallery and pick up a schedule. We'll have copies of the schedule posted outside on our north window so they can get one any time.
Are there other theaters like the Film Club?
Theaters that show great movies from the past used to be far more common. But it’s gotten much harder to get a license to show films this way. Wikipedia lists about 50 surviving revival houses in the U.S., mostly in big cities.
What's different about a revival house?
At a first-run theater, people see what's new. At a revival house (also known as a repertory cinema), people go to see movies that people have liked for decades.
Even if you've seen these movies before, it's fun to see them again in a theater setting.
Where do you show the films?
The Film Club meets at the Mark Dahle Art Gallery, 333 N. Webster St. in Red Cloud. The doors open twenty minutes before the show.
What should I do next?
Come see a free movie! And encourage your friends to sign up for this email so they know what movies are coming up. Have them write to RedCloudFilmClub@gmail.com. Or they get a schedule posted outside on our north window. Or they can drop by the gallery 20 minutes before any show and pick up a schedule.
What would you like to see?
We have the rights to show more than half the movies ever made. Let us know what you’d like to see. If we can show it, we’d love to schedule a time and day that works for you.
